If you have been reading my blog at all for the last several weeks you know how crazy our weather has been here in Teton Valley. My first guide trip for The Lodge at Palisades Creek was scheduled for Friday the 13th of June, on Thursday the 12th it was still cold and snowy, but as forecasted the weather on Friday was perfect! I met my guests at the lodge’s fly shop and we had a very enjoyable day on section 1 of the South Fork from the Dam to the Bridge. The fish didn’t cooperate as much as the weather but we managed to boat enough fish on various nymphs to keep us all entertained. Thanks for coming up Brad and Chris, it was great fishing with you!
The weather continued to be spectacular all week which was great because I was scheduled to guide every day. Bob and Beverly Gowing made their annual trip to the lodge as did Dr. Harvey Bender, Bill Alford, and Ron Clark. I also had the pleasure of fishing with my long time client and friend Gerald Wood who brought his step son Tracy with him all the way from Miami. Gerald has been coming out to fish with for over 10 years and it was great to see him, his wife, and to meet some more of his family.
The fishing improved a little everyday as the water is slowly warming up. Morning water temps have been right around 49 degrees, once the water hits 54 we should start to see some dry flies! In the meantime the nymphing has been very good with stonefly nymphs, san juan worms, and a variety of bead heads.
I have a couple days off and I hope that by the time I am back on the river we will start to see some adult salmon flies coming off on the lower river….Stay Tuned!
