Yurt Trip 2009

If you are a backcountry skier and live in Teton Valley (and even if you don’t)  you really owe it to yourself and your friends to check out one of the three yurts located in the Tetons just east of the valley.  The yurts are located in the Bridger/Teton National Forest and are operated by Rendezvous Backcountry Tours. Snowmobiles, Yurts, and Skiing go together like Culry, Moe, and Larry and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.  Over the years we have become quite adept at hauling gear into the yurts via snowmobile.   We have engineered special ski racks and trailers…props have to go out to the head welder and engineer Frank Trotter.  It may seem like cheating to some, but there is nothing like having gourmet food and beverages at the yurt after a long day of skiing.

Frank and I loaded up the gear at the Mud Lake trailhead while the other four in our party skied in from Fox Creek.  We all met up at the yurt for a couple aftnernoon runs.  Saturday was our only full day at the yurt and we hit it hard by skiing off peak 10,025 and multiple laps on the north facing slopes of Zimbawe.  The sun was already setting by the time we all arrived back at the yurt.  Sunday we skied multiple laps in the trees towards Fox Creek before packing up and heading back to the valley.

Here’s a bunch of pics…enjoy!
