Good Bye Rio

Dogs are Man’s best friend, and we lost a good one last week.  Rio was our first “child.”  He was Jenny’s birthday present our first year of marriage.  He lived just 7 short years but we hope we packed them with lots of fun.  Rio collapsed two weeks ago while getting ready to go for a ski with Jenny up Teton Canyon.  Jenny rushed him to the vet where they discovered he had fluid around his heart.  An ultra-sound revealed a tumor in his heart that was bleeding, causing the fluid.  Unfortuantely there is not much that can be done in this situation as surgery and chemo are risky, expensive, and are not effective.  Jane from Victor Veterinary drained some of the fluid and Rio had another 10 days or so of happiness until the fluid caught up again.

We hope you enjoyed your life with us Rio – fishing, skiing, running and hiking. You were our first “child” and Captain’s mentor. When you weren’t holding down the deck, laying too close to the wood stove or barking at the UPS man, you were our constant regal companion. We love you Rio, and hope doggy heaven treats you well with good food and long butt rubs. We’ll miss you.

Rio, my wonderful nephew, you will be greatly missed. You were such an awesome cousin to Taj & Brinley and we will always remember the fun times we had with you! Remember when I thought I lost Captain and you helped me track him down. I was crying and freaking out and I should have listened to you eyes… you were tellling me the same thing Chris told me on the phone: “calm down retard”. Love ya Rio!

Thanks MJ those are some kind words. Rio was the man, a little strange (sometimes more like a cat) but he was still the man

OH that breaks my heart. My parents had to put there golden down this summer. He was also 7. Jackson had an enlarged liver, and he stopped eating and drinking and was down to 80 lbs within a few weeks from his regular 100 lbs. It was very hard and I know what your going through. I hope you and Jenny and are doing okay.

On a happier note, your son is adorable. I got to meet him at Ness’s baby shower.

    Take care,
    hilary

Cheers to Rio man. Saying goodbye to a good dog is hard, but makes us realize all of the goodness they brought to our lives. Bridger will miss Rio taking his and Captains fetch stick. Cat will miss her full size twin and stalker. And Ness and I will always remember the good excursions with Chris, Jenny, and all of the boys. Cheers to remembering the good stories of our Best Friends that go WOOF.
